Counting of votes begins Who will win in Tamilnadu election?

The counting of votes will be taken up on today (Friday) for the April 13 Assembly polls that saw a tightly fought contest between the fronts led by the DMK and AIADMK.

As many as 75.21 per cent of the voters in the state had exercised their franchise for 234 Assembly seats.

If DMK win, the succession issues still haunt the DMK’s first family but it is believed that the 87 year-old Karunanidhi himself may take over the reins in the event of DMK being voted back to power.

If AIADMK win, Jayalalithaa, who fought a do or die battle in the elections to come back to power after a five-year long hiatus.

Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) have been stored in strong rooms in 91 counting centres across the state and are being guarded by central and state forces round-the-clock.

Mappillai is a remake of Rajinikanth’s yesteryear blockbuster film- Review hit or flop

Mappillai is a remake of Rajinikanth’s yesteryear blockbuster film with the same name. The director has roped in Manisha Koirala and Hansika Motwani for the mother-daughter roles, which was played by Srividya and Amala in Rajinikanth starrer film.

Rajnikanth’s real life son-in-law plays the role essayed by the superstar himself. Mapillai adheres mostly to the original premise but Suraj has added a few and deleted some portions from the old to suit to the current times.

Mapillai suffers from weak characterization especially of its lead character Manisha Koirala. Manisha as Rajeshwari provides a frail foil to the effervescent Dhanush and this evinces an indifferent reaction from the audience.

Vivek as the ardent Namitha fan with coiffured hair attempts at comedy but annoys for the most parts with his accent and logorrhoea. Mapillai opens up with the comedy track of Vivek, Sathyan, Balaji and cell Murugan and its lengthiness tires.

Hansika makes her debut and the girl looks plump and cute and excels in midriff exposition. The costume designer has done a good job.

Prashanth’s much-awaited epic film Ponnar Shankar Hit or Flop

Prashanth’s much-awaited epic film Ponnar Shankar has already created a lot of buzz in Kollywood. The film is expected to be one of the costliest epic films ever made in Tamil.

The film also stars Sneha, Riaz Khan, Jayaram, Khushbu, Prakashraj, Napoleon, Rajkiran and Vijayakumar in prominent roles. Ponnar Shankar boasts of being a historical drama that is set in our very own Tamil Nadu. Ponnar Shankar draws you into its drama and grandeur right from the word go. The first half is engaging and grapples the audience’s attention.

The visual splendor and good story, the soul of this film lies in the performances. Prashanth playing dual roles has done the needful. Prashanth’s lady loves played by Pooja Chopra and Divya Parameshwaran have nothing much to do but look pretty and dance.

Graphics directed by Prashanth is another positive aspect. The dialogues are commendable but at times it is a mix of ancient and modern Tamil words which sound obtrusive. Ponnar Shankar throws a big surprise of being a well made historic film
